Code Black (pt. 2)

So I found out I only had a couple days to design the back and spine of the book cover. I wanted to get a new photograph but I didn’t know when I would even find the time. I don’t remember specifically what was happening that weekend, but I remember it was pretty full with events.

I ended up taking some photographs of the MBTA when I was on my morning commute. I borrowed my boyfriend’s camera and went on a shooting spree. Only problem is… I realized way long into the process that he had it on manual focus not auto! I’m so used to mine being auto so I can snap quick pictures that I didn’t even think that his could be in manual. I clearly didn’t review the photograph very closely after I took them. Or maybe I did and I was just still groggy from waking up to even notice! Either way, I panicked some more. So many photos out of the question!

Thankfully, I did realize the problem before my train ride was over. Phew! That would have been bad if I didn’t. I also lucked out with being the only one on the car by the time we got to Braintree. I didn’t have to worry about getting people in the shot or having them look at me wondering what I was doing. I managed to get a couple shots and made some options to show Joe and my dad.

Code Black Hardcover Back

This was the final product! I’m really pleased with how it came out. I couldn’t wait to see it in final print.

I had the hardcover in my bookcase. I looked at it so many times. So shiny… so real! Then one day, the light happened to catch it a certain way. I realized the white line that I thought was a glare was in fact a printing error! There was a space between the back cover and the spine and then the back cover and the inside flap. I made sure to contact Joe about this to fix the issue right away. Thankfully we managed to get it right. I still don’t know what the issue was exactly since I’m not the one dealing with the printing but I’m so happy Joe was able to figure it out.

I love the final product. It’s such a great story and I’m so proud of my father (and Joe).
