Things have been crazy since starting this website! I went on a vacation to San Diego; my first time to California! We were visiting my friends who moved all the way out there. It was so great to see them and experience what the Southern Californian culture is all about.

So after that amazing trip, I needed to start packing right away again. This time, we were packing for a big move. We were moving from our first apartment to a new one in Boston. As stressful as the move was, it was completely worth it. Boston is an amazing city to love in and I’m glad to be able to experience its charm on a daily basis.
We have spent lots of time settling in and enjoying the new experiences. Our cat, Juliette, has settled in quite nicely too. Now, I have no excuse to not keep up on this blog.
My workplace had a pumpkin decorating contest this Halloween season. We were given pumpkins and then basically given free range of where to go from there. I absolutely love Halloween and knew I wanted to do something themed rather than something that’s just cute- not that there is anything wrong with that! I decided on making Oogie Boogie from The Nightmare Before Christmas. I decided I wasn’t going to carve it because keeping a carved pumpkin inside makes it rot faster. After spending time trying to think of what to do, I headed off to the fabric store for burlap and yarn.

Please excuse the mess in the background! I painted the pumpkin black and cut out the mouth and eyes from the burlap to have the negative space reveal the pumpkin. I hand-sewed the yarn and used Mod Podge to have the burlap keep its shape. I then used glow-in-the-dark spray paint to give him a similar glowing effect as Oogie Boogie has. It was really fun to create but I was then getting nervous my pumpkin would stick out like a sore thumb and be the only spooky one.
… I was right! The only spooky looking one! I still love it though. I loved seeing the creativity of everyone in the office and seeing which pumpkin reflected the person’s personality (I’m looking at you number 7, you candy lover!) This was such a fun break from the daily grind and even though I didn’t win, I had a lot of fun and now I have a Halloween decoration on my shelf. Now to start planning a costume!
